NSSA Managers Information page

Updated: 19th July 2025

Dear Team Managers.

I am writing to introduce next year’s NSSA event to you and highlight some of the key information.

Downs SC and KSSA have hosted this event four times before, the last one in 2014. Downs is a very friendly members club with a wide range of sailors and supporters. Kent Schools Sailing Association has been a long-term supporter of NSSA and has many clubs in the region promoting and supporting youth sailing.  We have been working on the planning of the event for three years already and have a fantastic team of dedicated volunteers working on making this event a success for all.

Sailing. Four race courses (provisionally as Topper , Laser , Handicap and Regatta ) each with their own race management and safety fleet. Plus overall lead safety ashore and afloat. Launching is from an open shingle beach with temporary slipways laid and electric winches to recover all but the smallest dinghies. The dinghies are stored overnight in a secure compound. The sailing club, launching and dinghy compound are all together on one site.

Accommodation. The campsite is a five minute walk from the sailing club at a local Rugby Club, extra showers and toilets have been hired in to avoid delays at key times. Food will be served here too and packed lunches delivered to Teams at the Sailing Club. The site is a fenced gated site and access only to competitors and team supporters.

Entertainment. A vibrant and engaging social and games programme is being planned to keep the competitors occupied each evening. The Regatta Week coincides with Deal Town Regatta so Teams are invited to participate in the local carnival on the Thursday evening if they so wish.

Town and surrounding area.  Downs S C is in the seaside town of Walmer, there are plenty of points of interest for parents and supporters including free entry to the English Heritage sites of Walmer and Deal Castles plus Dover for those wishing to travel out of town.

To help with running the event we will be looking for additional Safety Boats, if you can support this request we would very much appreciate this.

Included in this pack are some event information flyers giving an overview of the event and an invitation card to pass on to your team members.

We welcome feedback and requests based on attendance at previous events, please contact us with your suggestions.

Any additional information you require please ask us and we will do all we can to help.

We look forward to seeing you all at Downs SC next year.
