Downs Sailing Club

Downs Sailing Club was founded in 1949, when dinghy sailing was very much in its infancy. The clubs name give’s homage to the historic safe anchorage for shipping off the club “The Downs” protected to the east by the infamous Goodwin Sands. The sailing club benefits from an unlimited sailing area with consistent winds from most directions, space for multiple fleets to launch and recover at all states of tide. The NSSA Youth regatta has been previously held at Downs in 1981, 1992, 1999 and 2014, attracting competitors from across the UK with excellent opportunities for spectators to view the sailing and racing. The club has modern facilities which will be extended to form a Regatta village to cope with the expected number of visitors.
